Information Details: 4/3 - The planning committee for the ACS 4th Annual Relay For Life of Dillsburg will be held April 3rd at Monaghan Presbyterian Church. March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month and the committee urges you to talk to your family physician for information on testing. Colorectal Cancer Testing in the United States has been rising steadily since 2002, a sign of slow but encouraging progress in the fight against a cancer that is largely curable. Medicare began covering colon cancer screening tests in 2001 4/5 - RECYCLE YOUR ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT - Dillsburg Borough, in coordination with York County Solid Waste Authority (YCSWA), will provide a satellite collection site for electronic recycling on Saturday, April 5, 2008. The recycling event will take place at the Dillsburg Borough Maintenance Building, located at 10 North Route 15 between 9 AM and 1 PM. There is no fee. Residents are responsible for removal of any personal data contained on electronic devices and computer hard drives. E-cycling Accepted Items include: answering machines, compact disc players, electric typewriters, fax machines, hard drives, laptops, mobile phones, modems, microwave ovens, pagers, personal computers (CPU, monitors, keyboards, mouse, and peripherals), printers, printed circuit boards, radios, remote controls, stereos, tape players, telephones/telephone equipment, televisions, and VCR’s. DO NOT BRING: Electric equipment (such as toasters, hair dryers, wall clocks, or electric razors) OR construction demolition, furniture, appliances, white goods, or household hazardous waste. All York County homeowners or residential tenants are eligible to participate. Commercial entities are not eligible to participate. 4/6 - Spring Tea at Maple Shade Barn - Sunday, April 6th, at 2:00 p.m. Featuring the art of Florence Wiley. A Team Captain's meeting will be held Tuesday, April 8, 7:00 pm at Monaghan's Presbyterian Church. Tent sites will be assigned at this meeting so be sure to attend. See you there. 4/8 - DILLSBURG GFWC TO HOLD MONTHLY MEETING AT DILL'S TAVERN - GFWC members will meet April 8th., at Dill's Tavern on North Baltimore Street, 6:30 pm, for a tour of the buildings and grounds, followed by speaker Dr. Christine Curran who will speak on The Beautiful, Healthy You! Members are asked to bring one serving of dessert, attractively and creatively wrapped, to be auctioned off to the highest bidder, with club member Faye Myers as our auctioneer. All money raised will be given to Dill's Tavern to help in their restoration projects. This will be our fourth tour of the tavern and it is wonderful to see the progress that is being made. Ethel Knaub, Hospitality Chairman and her committee Melinda McDonald, Sally Myers and Mary Rearick are in charge of the dessert auction. All women 18 years of age and older are invited to attend. For more information, please call Pam at 432-3224. 4/10 - Next in this series is Rob Luff, A student’s view of comics and a professor’s view of graphic novels are exceptional points-of-view scheduled for a hearing at the Dillsburg Area Public Library on April 10 and May 15 at 7 p.m. Designated a “Community Resource for Lifetime Learning,” the library thus concludes its series COMICS FROM THE CLASSICS TO THE GRAPHIX. Rob Luff writes “The Mild-Mannered Report,” a comic-book column for The Slate, Shippensburg University’s student newspaper. (Clark Kent was a “mild-mannered reporter”.) He is a journalism and history major who will speak at Dillsburg Library April 10 on the modern trends in comics, and their advantages over other media such as film and novels. Comics have a unique position in storytelling, he maintains, combining cinematic sequences with print, creating a different message for readers. “COMICS FROM THE CLASSICS TO THE GRAPHICS” is cosponsored by Northern York County School District, offering teachers Act 48 credit, and librarians Continuing Education hours. 4/11 - Youth Game Night - NYCSF is sponsoring a Youth Game Night on Friday, April 11, 2008 from 6:30-9 PM at the Sports Learning Center for students in 2nd through 5th grades. Admission is $6 and includes refreshments (pizza and one soda). Additional snacks and sodas may be purchased. As in the fall, residents are asked to place the leaves in a loose, unconfined pile for collection within 2 feet of the curb line. Please call 432-9969 with any questions. 4/16 - The Student Center and NYCSF are offering a SUPPORT GROUP for Families & Friends of Military Personnel being held at the Franklintown Fire Hall, 107 S. Baltimore Street, Franklintown, PA 17323. The group will meet on every 3rd Wednesday of every month. Time is from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. This support group is an opportunity to share the anxieties and issues that arise at home when a family member or friend is serving in the Armed Forces.
