10/4 - Time to rid your home of household hazardous waste. The York County Solid Waste Authority will hold a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program from 9 AM to 1 PM at the York County Solid Waste Authority Management Center, 2700 Blackbridge Road. All York County homeowners or residential tenants are eligible to participate. Due to state regulatory requirements, commercial entities are not eligible to participate. There is no fee to participate. Household hazardous waste includes any products from the home that are corrosive (drain cleaners or bleach), flammable (gasoline), reactive (chemistry kits) or toxic (pesticides). Please don't bring latex or oil-based paint, alkaline batteries, aerosol cans, explosives, ammunition, propane tanks or used motor oil. 10/11-12 - The Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary presents an Annual Fabric Sale at 20 East Pomfret Street (corner of Hanover & Pomfret Streets), Carlisle, PA. If you would like to donate clean fabric, notions, crafts, patterns, etc., please call to set up a drop off time. Mark boxes or bags "for fabric sale". All donations must be made by September 26th. Baltimore Street, Franklintown, PA 17323. The group meets every 3rd Wednesday of every month. Time is from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. This support group is an opportunity to share the anxieties and issues that arise at home when a family member or friend is serving in the Armed Forces. 10/25 - DATE OF WELLSVILLE'S 3rd ANNUAL FALL FESTIVAL AND PARADE ANNOUNCED
Beginning Saturday at 7am the Wellsville fire hall will open their doors for a Community Breakfast. While enjoying your breakfast you can stop and vote on your favorite pumpkin in the Great Pumpkin Carving Contest sponsored by the Wellsville Area Historical Society. 8am will mark the opening of Grace United Methodist Church annual craft fair as well as the Flea Market at the Wellsville fire hall. Flea Market Vendors will be selling their goods both inside and outside this year! Spaces are still available! 10x12 foot space Inside just $15.00 or 10x12 foot space Outside just $10. Contact Larry Shindel at 502-0532 to reserve your space now! Back by popular demand Scarecrow making and the Amazing petting zoo will once again be part of the festivities. These popular actives will begin at 10am on the grounds of the fire hall. Be sure to bring your camera you wont want to miss this fun! This year the parade will begin an hour earlier at 1pm. Make note of this earlier time! Registration will open at 11:30am inside the fire hall. Parade participants will line up in the alley behind the former Lynn’s Market. The Parade will proceed up Carroll Street to Main Street (Route 74), ending at Fickes Road. All persons and groups are cordially invited to be part of this year's parade! Registration forms are available at the Wellsville Borough Office. Children & Families, Floats, Antique Cars, Tractors, wagons, school bands and area musicians, you name it, are all welcome and encouraged to participate! Last minute entries are always welcome! Prizes will be awarded to the Best Band, Float Marching Group. The top four walking Individuals will also be awarded prizes! To end this year’s festival there will be a Halloween Dance held at the Wellsville Fire hall. from 8 to 12pm. Advance Tickets are $10.00. Please call 432-9775 for more information. Food vendors are still needed for this year’s festival. Food Vendors will be set up throughout town. Local civic and community groups are invited to participate. There is no entry fee for this contest. All ages are welcome to participate, all we ask is that you be creative and do not use templates when carving your pumpkins— free hand work only!
